Edisto Habitat for Humanity was the vision of a group of Orangeburg citizens concerned about families who seemed to have no way out of substandard living conditions. These local citizens from churches and businesses had their first meeting in 1989. Edisto Habitat for Humanity, Inc. was born from their dream and chartered in 1990. We became an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (www.habitat.org) in May of 1991 and completed construction of the first Habitat Home in Orangeburg in October of that same year. Orangeburg’s second Habitat Home was begun in 1994.
We’re celebrating 25 years in 2016 and will complete our 75th house by year end. All of these homes were built in partnership with churches, civic organizations, businesses, and dedicated VOLUNTEERS. We are currently building four homes each year with the help of the Orangeburg community.
